MRFC website launched today

How many of you knew that the GCC's oldest rugby club, Muscat Rugby Football Club, was founded on the 9th of August, 1971 and that His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said graciously accepted the position as patron of the rugby club? Amazing isn't it, we've got the oldest rugby club in the GCC right here in Muscat!

Time's have been hard for the club in recent years with the loss of it's clubhouse (and thus its main traditional source of revenue) and then the loss of it's rugby pitch in Khuwair a few years ago, which had been it's home since 1985 (between 1974-1985 the rugby club was in Wattayah). But MRFC have been very busy and have secured a new grass pitch in Bowsher (click here to see a map to it) and have been busily working on it's social club side of things with a number of very successful parties being held in the last year.

The life blood for the club is now membership dues, and September 1st see's the start of the new year for the club (Sept 1st - Aug 31st). Today the club launched their new website which features online membership sign-ups.

The 1st XV team have over 16 matches planned this coming season and are currently training twice a week on the new pitch on Monday's and Wednesday's from 6:30pm. The Muscat Pirates (kids section - separate membership dues available on the Muscat Pirates website) has over 150 kids enrolled and is busy many nights a week.

There are a number of benefits to being a member of the rugby club - but firstly - you don't have to be a rugby player to join! There are social memberships, and the social members are what helps the Club meet it's financial commitments throughout the year - keeping grass green and honouring fixtures in other countries is an expensive endeavour!

A social membership is RO 50 a year for a single membership, or RO 100 a year for a family membership (that is 2 adults and 3 kids maximum). If you'd like to play, that is RO 100 for single or RO 150 for family membership. There are also single monthly membership rates available, should you only be visiting for a shorter period of time (or have guests coming) that are RO 10 a  month.
