Way back in July 2009 when I first started this blog, the 5th post I made was about the pork shop in Darsait, Al Hamadi Fisheries. Its a very popular post to this day as lots of people seem to Google search about pork in Muscat, and end up on that post. In fact if you Google, "Pork in Muscat" my post is actually the top result. Pork-tastic.
Now, a few weeks ago I was at a bbq with some friends when I was told about the "secret pork shop in Ghubra". I was obviously intrigued and so started the hunt and found it pretty quickly, and then realised it was the same company as the other one in Darsait. Being allergic to Ruwi (and Darsait, and Wadi Kabir) I've not actually been to the old pork shop for quite some time, and I've heard rumours that its closed down.... but I dont know if thats true or not.
The Ghubra outlet of the Al Hamadi Fisheries store is open Saturday to Thursday from 8:30 till 1:30 and 4:30 till 9:00, and on Fridays from 8:30 till 11:30. Its clean and it looks like it just opened very recently. You can find the pork in its own separate room to the left of the store when you walk in. They also have frozen fish (obviously) and poultry products too. Here is a link to its approximate location in Ghubra (its in a side street opposite the Mars Hypermarket just down from the Ghubra highway flyover). UPDATE: Well it seems the link to Wikimapia doesn't work, so I made a map....
The frozen pork products are basically bacon, sausages, ribs, pork chops, sandwich ham and a few other bits and pieces. I saw pigs ears too (for the dogs I assume). Now this stuff is cheap, and the sausages do not compare to the very nice (and also eye-wateringly expensive) ones you can get at Mackenzies Deli or UnFair, but they do the job if you're making hot-dogs or something, and are the same cheap ones that Al Fair do too, but these are priced less than at Al Fair. The bacon, is actually pretty good - I've had some and it works a treat for that weekend bacon butty in the morning. I've had the ribs before, but not recently, but they are also pretty good too, slow cooked in some bbq sauce.. mmm.
Everything is kept in its own separate freezers away from the other stuff, and they even have their own separate walk-in freezer too. Anyway, now you know... :)

Had a chuckle at "UnFair", Unfair indeed! I've always looked at people shopping for tomatoes and potatoes at Alfair like royalty.
