Feeny's fundraising for Nepal

Unless you've been living under a rock, you will know by now the horrendous situation being faced by those in Nepal. This past Saturday an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the scales. A big quake. The UN says over 8 million people are affected, and estimates that over 1.2 million people require food aid right now. The death toll rises with the last estimate I read saying it was over 3,000.

Feeny's have a donation box that they've got in their bar that you can donate to, and there's a pub quiz tonight, so perhaps you could donate to a worthy cause and have a laugh AND even exercise your brain (no one cheats with Google in pub quizzes do they?!).

Alternatively, you could always donate to the International Red Cross (who are doing good work in Yemen right now too).

  1. Yes, its great you blogged about it! More so since your posts reach out to a lot of people. :P :P

I read on ToO or Oman Observer that Nepal embassy has a donation box as well.

For those who are looking to make an online payment- I blogged about the options here -- https://bladenomics.wordpress.com/2015/04/27/help-nepal-now/

  2. I hope that donations of this donation drive will really go to Nepal. (I do not say that the good folks of Feeny's have anything other than the best of intentions).
It is just that I have heard from several unrelated sources that the donations from last year's "box appeal" to fill boxes with stuff for the poor laborers actually ended up with Omanis.

  3. Anoymous 2:32: If that is true, I hope it was poor Omanis at least? Like elderly widows with special needs grandkids and a falling down house or something (I know a lot of poor Omani families {elderly always}who apply for government aid but don't get enough to live on and are waiting for like 18 years now on land or housing that others got already). They are usually the most generous people as well, so if that was the case, one couldn't be mad. Like me if my aid money goes to Nepal or Yemen, I don't care/but I care if someone who has more than I do takes something meant for someone genuinely miskeen like migrant labourers or poor families.
