Just a small one this morning. It seems like there is more rumblings regarding alcohol licensing.... Feeny's pub has had it's alcohol license revoked (I understand it expired and a renewal was rejected). I understand that the owners are in court today to try and get the license renewed - not really sure on all of the details.
It seems that predictions are coming true though, once alcohol licenses expire for locations outside hotels (and again that "hotel" is not really one, it's got like 6 rooms or something) - their licenses are being binned.
Perhaps Feeny's will reopen in the future, I don't know, but it's closed at the moment.
UPDATE: Feeneys was open last night, the court case is between the owner of the property and the owners of the business operating on the property, the case has been adjourned and while this is happening the bar has been allowed to re-open pending the resolution of the case.

Isn't Feeny's location technically a hotel though?

ReplyDeleteObserved truth: Oman is slowly turning itself into a Saudia#2 with all those fascists taking power day by day. While Omanis keep singing the same "we are tolerant" songs, they will wake up to the shocking reality when there is no tolerance left anymore.
ReplyDeleteNo bands, less bars, moving backwards here. It's not that Feeny's was/is that great a bar but now the choice of places to go to is even more limited :|
ReplyDeleteWe were late this year renewing our license because our fire permit took a long time, we were still able to renew but had to pay OMR1000 fine. Previous years we did not have to pay this fine.
ReplyDeleteTheir country, their rules!
ReplyDeleteExpats really have to get use to the fact that we are all just visitors, and Omanis need to develop their country in a way that suits them and their culture.
There's always some twat that comes out with the 'Their country, their rules' crap.
ReplyDeleteAnother step to move forward.
ReplyDeletei dont think the facts are correct here. it hasn't lost its licence as far as i am aware. i think these sites are good but should get the facts before stirring chinese rumours
ReplyDeleteso Left Bank, Marina Bandar Al Rowdha etc will loose their licenses on renewal? ..er. don't think so.
ReplyDeletecan't stop house parties.. and strippers flown in from Dubai.
ReplyDeletePint of Guiness in Feeneys was 2.8 rials. Most other hotels it's 4 rials or more. Is it possible do we think that influential 5 star hotel owners are getting the government to shut down the cheaper alternatives to maximise their profits? Maybe the government have interests in the 5 sat hotels? I wonder...
ReplyDeleteI will miss the fish and chips.
Pint of Guinness in Habana is RO 2.3 - cheaper than Feenys...
ReplyDeleteI'm just guessing:will Left Bank shut down?Rather not,the same with ***** hotels.I may think it's the way how to sink the competitors, isn't it?

ReplyDeleteFeeneys are indeed in trouble. license has been revoked although was temporary but now they different problem. They are being investigated by the ROP for bringing alcohol in from another source while their license was revoked. This will probably be the last you hear of Feeneys. They havent even updated their Facebook since September. Although Angelica has replied to one poster by saying they have no alcohol, something they havent had for almost two months
ReplyDeleteI've just passed by and Feenys is now fully closed. They had notice on the front door and I also have been told 2 of the long serving filipino staff are longer working there. So Im sure this is the final farewell to Feenys.
ReplyDeleteI can also confirm this. Just passed by and there is a notice saying "closed till further notice". i guess this is the end of Fenneys..well at least for now..maybe someone from the company can shed some light
