This coming Sunday, the 3rd of April is Mothers Day in the UK. Quite why it is held on a different day to Mothers Day in pretty much the rest of the world (on May 8th this year) is lost on me. But there we go. So, if you forgot to get your mum a gift, you've got just about enough time to get on the phone and order some flowers for delivery!
PS Don't forget to enter into the free ticket give away for Westlife!

In the Arab World it is celebrated on the 21st of March which I can't understand why as well.
ReplyDeleteTechnically in the UK, it is called Mothering Sunday, not Mothers Day and it has its origins as a religious festival. Traditionally, it was the day on which every one returned to their 'mother church' - so if you were working away from home, that was the day you were allowed to go back home. So nothing really to do with mums at all.
ReplyDeleteMothering Sunday falls on the 4th Sunday in Lent, so its date varies from year to year. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, which this year was March 9th. Next year it is Feb 22nd and in 2013 it is Feb 13th.

Being a Mum I like it as Mother's Day
